Labour Councillors for Telegraph Hill Ward

Congratulations to Sachen Whyte for winning both The Young Mayor's Award for young volunteer and The Mayor's Award at the Make A Difference Award Ceremony on June 7th.  The annual award nomination scheme is run by Volunteer Centre Lewisham and Lewisham Council in recognition of the outstanding contribution that volunteers make within the borough.  Over the last year Sachen has turned a derelict plot of land adjoining his block of flats in Arica Road into a safe play area and community green space for local children, older residents and local wildlife to enjoy. Working with support from Bold Vision, Sachen has plans to fund-raise for play equipment and a community mural to make the space even better.  

Cllr Joan Millbank who has worked with Sachen on the scheme says:  "Sachen is a remarkable young man. He has show a  depth of interest and commitment for in this project that is truly inspiring. He  is a very worthy winner and someone to look out for in the future!"
