Lewisham residents who do not want traders visiting their property trying to sell them goods or services can now obtain a free window sticker that warns cold callers not to visit.

The window sticker comes with an information leaflet which provides residents with advice about dealing with cold callers and how to prevent people tricking their way into their homes. Residents are also encouraged to register with Thames Water and the other utility companies for password protection schemes that might be available to them.

Councillor Susan Wise, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, said: “Many residents find it a nuisance when sales people knock on their doors. Not only will this sticker and leaflet help those residents to say no thanks, it will also provide a visual deterrent to those criminals who try to trick their way into people’s property, or try to trick people into having work carried out that they don’t need.
“We want residents to be empowered to say no to cold callers and know what steps to take to prevent themselves being the victims of doorstep crime.”

The stickers and leaflet can be collected from local libraries or by contacting Lewisham Trading Standards on 020 8314 2288 or trading.standards@lewisham.gov.uk   If a trader ignores a sticker being displayed then residents should contact Lewisham Council’s Trading Standards service.
