The Government is planning a cut to Housing Benefit that will lead to tens of thousands of people losing their homes. Single people aged 25 to 34 will be forced into shared accommodation that is frequently inappropriate, unavailable and unaffordable. You've heard us talk about this before and you might already have written to your MP about the issue. But it's difficult to grasp the reality of this change without seeing just how deep the cuts will be.

By following the instructions below you can see the cuts people in your area will be facing.

What is the most a single 25 to 34 year old could get now? Go to the DirectGov Housing Allowance search page and select "One Bedroom" to find out

What will this be reduced to from January 2012? Go to the same search page and select "Shared Accommodation" to find out

Just think what a cut of that size would mean for you... Meeting a large shortfall between housing benefit and rent is nearly impossible for people on limited incomes.

  • You could be one of thousands forced out of your home by the cuts.
  • Even if you have been sleeping rough, have mental health problems or a physical disability you could still be affected.
  • Even if you live in a small town or rural area where you would struggle to find a shared house you would not get enough for your own flat.
You would be at risk of homelessness.

Please look out for future Crisis campaigning on this issue.
