The New Cross Food Co-op was set up a few years ago with funding from NDC and provides residents in New Cross Gate with the opportunity to buy fresh fruit & veg each week; part of increasing healthy eating. They have been successful and now want to expand by setting up (another) stall outside New Cross Gate Post Office, both to raise visibility and to attract increased footfall.

The original group has recently been strengthened by residents from Telegraph Hill, also keen to see an increase in fresh food provision in the area, and have lots of ideas and experience in running small businesses.

They have approached David Oramay, manager of New Cross post office with a request to site a stall outside on the paved area and he has said NO. Therefore, Telegraph Hill Councillors have asked for Joan Ruddock MP to intervene.

They only require enough space to set up a medium size market stall on day per week, 8.30am -  2.00pm ideally Friday's; they would pay a fee but would prefer if it was free as its a community project.

This issue also highlights increasing interest from local people getting together to try and breath life back into the area via its shops (including Transition New Cross, Bold Vision). Telegraph Hill councillors fully support this venture.
