Lewisham Council has launched a wide-ranging consultation exercise to gain feedback from residents about how best to deal with cuts of up to £60 million pounds in national Government funding.
Over the last three years, Lewisham Council has made savings of around £26 million by cutting waste and becoming increasingly efficient in how we deliver services.  Whilst we will continue to look at efficiencies, the next three years will see a fundamental change in the way we deliver our public services.    Our Lewisham, Our Say gives citizens across the borough a chance to comment and make suggestions on:
  • Which Council services you value most
  • What you think the Council could do less of
  • And where you believe you, your friends, family and neighbours could help each other to improve your area and ease the pressure on public services in Lewisham.

The consultation process is open from now until October 2010 with residents able to complete an online survey focusing on issues and options that the Council is considering.  We will also be taking our dialogue out onto the streets, running roadshows in shopping centres and local neighbourhoods during the months of August and September.  Local assemblies will be having their own `Our Lewisham, Our Say' discussions in September and October and community and voluntary groups will also be able to get involved.    The final results of the consultation will be presented to the Mayor and Cabinet meeting in November and will help the Council develop future savings proposals.

Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: “As a result of funding reductions from central government, we have no choice but to find savings probably totally £60million over the next three years. I am urging people to take part in Our Lewisham, Our Say – your thoughts and suggestions will help us deal with the challenge and ensure everyone is involved in this difficult process."
