Attached to this article is the report on noise and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document relating to the proposal. Since we were elected in May and after the proposals to cut the council budget, this has been the most difficult decision for us. Cllr Bell and Cllr Millbank will be speaking at the Mayor & Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday on behalf of all three ward councillors. Cllr Whittle cannot attend, but is in full agreement with what we are going to say.

We ask that the community unite and work together in the next few months, whatever the decision on Wednesday. The fears and reservations of some, will, we hope, be unrealised if the decision is taken to allow the skatearea to be built.

Last night members of the community came to an extended Assembly meeting to discuss the skate area proposals and "Our Lewisham, Our Say". Not surprisingly it was a packed meeting and well over 220 people filled Haberdasher's dining hall listening to the arguments for and against. After a heated discussion, with contributions from the floor, a vote was taken and the following result was declared to move forward with proposals to site a small skate aread arond the basketball court on the Pepys Road side of the lower park. The result was as follows:

196 FOR and 72 AGAINST.

The communty has come a long way on this issue and the best parts of it were shown last night. The next stage is for a paper to be written by council officers that will go to the Mayor and Cabinet meeting on 3rd November, where the fate of the skate area will be decided. We know that there are concerns and residents along Pepys Road will be kept informed at each stage. It is important that everyone feels able to put their point across and that as far as possible we have an outcome that is acceptable to as many people as possible.

Below is a document detailing the recommendation of the Skateboard Area Working Group's proposals that they will be consulting residents about on Pepys Road and Erlanger Road on Sunday and what will be presented at the Assembly on 21st September.

Please take a look...more information soon on the Telegraph Hill Forums, Brockley Central and Lewisham Council Assembly website.

We have come away from the meeting generally positive. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I think we are one step closer to achieving compromise and consensus. Telegraph Hill tonight has demonstrated the best qualities of itself and we are proud to represent this ward.

Both sides spoke eloquently and made their case in a reasoned way. Sylvestra also made an excellent contribution about attendance at the Friends of the Park meetings.

So as far as we can tell, we have achieved the following:

- Residents will work together to find a suitable location in the lower park or an alternative
- The Upper Park will remain as it is and we will hopefully not need a vote in September
- Both sides understand each other more and had a chance to voice their concerns in an open forum.

A good night?

Paul, Dan and Joan.

The vote on the proposal to use the Upper Park as the site for the skateboard park has been rescheduled to the September Assembly meeting. We will post the date here once it has been scheduled.

After extensive consultation, getting viewpoints from all sides and being approached by many consitutents about a vote on using the Upper Park as a location for the Skatepark, we (councillors) have taken the decision to defer the vote to the Assembly meeting after June 17th, leaving this meeting to agree the mechanism and procedure for a vote to take place.

June 17th will also give SPAG an opportunity to present their proposals again to more people, thereby extending the timeframe for residents to find out more and see the plans in more detail, without the decision to use the Upper Park taken on the same night.

I will update you again tomorrow on when that next meeting will be. SPAG have asked for it to take place in July, which I am investigating but in all honesty the next meeting may be the September Ward Assembly which has not yet been scheduled.

I hope you will all attend on June 17th, if you can, so that all concerns and questions can be addressed and answered.

Please feel free to contact me, Joan Millbank or Dan Whittle if you need more information.

Cllr Paul Bell
